Kite festival 2011

Well hello there.

Today has been all about the Kite Festival, first business was to input the responses from the questionnaires handed to participants of the kite making workshops held during the  World Mental Health Day Kite Festival 2011 –held on the rather wet and windy 9th of October-and the various outreach workshops held in the build-up to the event.

The questionnaires focused on mental well-being of the participants, and asked how they felt the week before the workshops and how they feel after participating; it was lovely to see that the windy wet weather did not fail to dampen the spirits of those who took part as overwhelmingly the responses indicated that participating in the activity made them happy. As a student I often researched and wrote about the impact that arts participation can have on both individuals and on communities as a whole. I even looked at culture as a viable tool for regeneration, so it has been fantastic to see first-hand an example of this theory put into practice and backed up by the kite makers of Wakefield.

Working at the event was lots of fun despite the weather and knowing we had helped make so many people happy has made it even more worthwhile.

Once I finished this I then uploaded the press cuttings about the event up on here so do take a look!

Cheerio
