The empty square

An empty space is a provocation…it demands to be filled! Inspired by an ordinance survey map showing a featureless square just outside Goole, Empty Square is a 3 year project exploring social and civic use of space. The project will explore the connection between the Greek Agora,  present day Civic Squares and empty and open rural and urban spaces with particular emphasis on what makes a social space  by: * Creating a performative research laboratory linking with a Yorkshire University * Researching, visiting and creating artistic encounters in other such featureless squares in Yorkshire * Exploring social space and village squares with local communities * Create a new outdoor work inspired by  the empty square in Goole * Deliver a series of articles, writings and debates

Hi Deborah

The featureless square on the ordinance survey map in Goole is the inspiration for the project as it is the only known featureless square on such a map.

Hi Faceless,

Sounds very exciting and visionary! It is brilliant that you are looking so far ahead and contributing to the development of the region and street arts.

But a bit confused about Agora being set up in Goole when you have such a long term commitment in Wakefield. Or is Goole just one of many squares you will animate?
